How does IPL hair removal work?
The Intense Pulsed Light hair removal system targets the hair follicle without disrupting the skin’s surface to remove hair on any part of the body for smooth softer looking skin. The energy directed from the IPL handpiece is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle that is then converted to heat. The heat works to disable the hair follicle cells that are responsible for the growth of new hair resulting in permanent hair removal.

Is IPL hair removal permanent?
Yes, hair follicles that have absorbed the energy of the light and have been destroyed will never grow hair again. Some hair growth may appear after 6-10 treatments but will be thinner, lighter in color and grow at a much slower rate than before. Additionally, throughout life, hormone fluctuations can cause hair follicles that have never been activated to become active. These "new" hairs can usually be treated with one or two spot area sessions.

Is IPL hair removal safe?
IPL works several times faster than other light-based hair removal systems. Unlike many laser and IPL facilities, we utilize a newly released cooler that actually adds protection to the skin. The cooler will cool the superficial skin layers and protect the skin to reduce the stinging sensation during treatment.

Does IPL hair removal hurt?
You may experience slight discomfort and feel a heat or stinging sensation. Most of this sensation dissappears with the use of the cooler. Some parts of the body tend to be more sensitive than others. A slight redness of the skin may occur for a few hours. You can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment. Some patients opt to take ibuprofen or other over the counter pain relievers prior to treatment.

How often do I come in for treatment?
Our goal is to target hair growth in the Anagen phase where hair growth is active and contains the most melanin. Multiple sessions are required, 6-10 are usually necessary. Why? At any given time, only about one third of the hair follicles are in the growth stage that responds well to the IPL. The success of treatments is individualized, depending on hair and skin type. Your treatments will be anywhere from once every three weeks to once every eight weeks depending on the body part being treated.A free consultation is conducted prior to treatment to assess your individual needs. You must stay on your treatment schedule to achieve the best results.

The SkinStation System has a separate light that is safe for even dark skin. Additionally, a spot test is ALWAYS performed prior to treatment to ensure that the IPL treatments will be safe for you.

How does LHE Acne Phototherapy work?
Blocked pores create a closed anaerobic environment that leads to rapid buildup of a P. acnes colony under the skin.
LHE clears acne safely and effectively with a series of concentrated pulses of light and heat. The green wavelength light penetrates deep into the skin to cause proliferation of porphyrins, resulting in the destruction of P. acnes bacteria. The concentrated pulse is up to 10,000 times more effective in porphyrin activation than the continuous wave light used by other light-based technologies. The red wavelength produces anti-inflammatory results. The addition of heat, unique to the LHE method, further increases the effectiveness by opening the skin pores and producing a faster chemical reaction.
